Hi John

I was able to visit the Eakins 2nd Family Cemetery today in Adams County OH.  I posted all of the pictures to John and Hannah Eakins at Find-A-Grave.  I will get Wesleys photos posted soon too.

I called the Adams County Historical Society on Thursday to get help in locating the Cemetery.  I was told the Cemetery was last visited by Society staff in 2007, when the stone wall was substantially fallen.  I was directed to find the Cemetery on the farm at 1425 Jacksonville Road.

This Eakins family farm, located at 1425 Jacksonville Road, Peebles, OH, is now owned by the Stone family.  The elderly widow of the Stone family still lives in the farmhouse on the south side of the road.  Her son (probably about 60 years old) lives in the mobile home on the north side of the road.  Another son actively farms the land.  A farm driveway, through the cornfield, goes back to the Cemetery.  Mr. Stone noticed when I parked in front of the farmhouse and volunteered to drive me back to the Cemetery in his pickup truck.  I was very thankful, because it is indeed at least one-half mile south southwest of the farmhouse.  The driveway would have been very difficult for my Toyota Prius to navigate, if even possible.  Mr. Stone mentioned that his parents purchased the farm from Russ(?) Akin sometime in the mid-1900s.

Find-A-Grave was about 2,000 feet off on the GPS coordinates.  This Cemetery is actually located at Latitude 38.92202 and Longitude -83.453936.  I sent the corrected GPS coordinates to edit@findagrave.com.  I also added Cemetery pictures (scenery and entrance) to the Cemetery page at Find-A-Grave.  They should be visible within a couple of days, at least in my prior similar experiences of submitting cemetery pictures.

I was especially glad to see Hannahs tombstone.  The Cemetery Index at the Adams County Historical Society, as well as several other places, has her age at death of 26.  That unfortunate incorrect age inscription has caused me to assume John had an earlier wife.  However that age at death was not correctly transcribed, when creating the cemetery index.  The tombstone clearly shows her age at death to have been 60, rather than 26.   That makes her year of birth about 1787, and allows for this Hannah to be the mother of all known children (as far as I know).

Their suggestion:

-------------------------

Today, for the first time, I visited the Eakins 2nd Family Cemetery in Adams

County OH.  The GPS coordinates on Find-A-Grave were incorrect.  I have

asked Find-A-Grave to correct those GPS Coordinates to 38.92202 -83.453936

Please note the age of Hannah Wright Eakins was 60 years old, not the

incorrectly transcribed 26 years old.  I took my picture to the Adams County

Historical Socity this afternoon, and asked them to edit their Cemetery

index for Meigs Township.  That way we might be able to gradually spread the

word that Hannah was born in about 1787, rather than 1821.  The incorrect

inscription had made me think that John had another wife.  I believe the

corrected information allows for Hannah to be the mother of all his

children.
