Dear Mrs Gregory
John Eakins was born in Pa.
November 1785, he died June 26 1856.
No records could be found concerning
his parents or relatives, but his old
trunk filled with papers and
documents reveal many interesting
facts concerning his life. A tattered
diary discloses that he stayed for
a short time in Maysville Ky.
Record is found of his service
in Captain Russells Co
from July 28 to Aug 22 1813. On
Nov 14, 1814 he was appointed
Captain of the 1st Co, 2nd Battalion,
3 Regiment, 1st Brigade,
2nd Division, of the Militia in the
State. This appointment was
signed by Othmel Looker &
John Gans Sec of State.
He received a land grant of
2,000 Acres for his services in the Army.
John Eakins married Hanna Wright, Dec 19 1806.

Record is found of the payment
of $210 for the building of the stone
wall, which incloses the family
cemetary on the Eakins home
farm. The following epitaphs
are on stones in the old stone
walled family grave yard, on Eakins
farm Adams county, Ohio, near
Lawshe. Savred to memory of
Hannah, Consort of John Eakins, Esq.
who departed this life Nov 28, 1847 Aged
60 years.
